there is a page about the environmental devastation
caused by urbanization. This is a contemporary
issue, but the essay here is a case study on the ancient Mesopotamian
city of Ur.
There's an essay that provides insight into the current terrorism issue by looking at Medieval Assassins. Another essay compares the victory of the U.S. over Saddam Hussein in the 2003 Iraq War with Alexander the Great's victory of Darius III 2,300 years ago on the same ground. The essay also compares the hellenization of the region after Alexander's conquests with the westernization/Americanization/globalization taking place there today. |

Why "Thucydides" as a title?
Since this is a site dedicated to history, I wanted to name it after a historian. The 'big three' early Greek historians came to mind. Herodotus, considered to be the 'father of history,' was too obvious a choice. Besides, his methodology, or lack of verification, left something to be desired. I wanted Xenophon because he had close ties with the Spartans, whom I admire, and he employed a more disciplined methodology. Plus the name sounded cool. But, alas, 'xenophon' was already taken at the Netfirms hosting service! I then researched Thucydides and discovered that, of the 'big three,' he was the best choice to borrow a name of all along! To find out why, go read his biography and an account of his 'history.' |

If you see Tinkerbell:
then that means you took too big a hit of acid, man. Not. I am in love with Tinkerbell. She's hot. So please indulge my whimsical bent whenever Tinkerbell pops up occasionally. |

These pamplets are very interrelated. There is mention of Christopher
Columbus and the Age of Exploration
on one page, but the discussion is revisited on several others. You really ought to flip back and forth through the pages
to capture the full pleasures of this site.
So, enjoy the site! And, come back to visit because new material will materialize out of the ether from time to time! Nothing much added for awhile, but maybe now there will be some. |
